I've been impressed with the unique beauty of the clouded leopard from the first time I saw one at the zoo. The distinctive markings, the extra long tail, the size in between a small & a big cat, the proportionally long teeth for it's size - just a few of the things that make them special. They are excellent climbers, capable of hanging upside down under branches, and are rarely seen in the forests of Southeast Asia and the Himalayas where they live. An endangered species, it's all the more precious that I've now had the pleasure of seeing just how cute this species is as cubs. The San Diego Zoo has 2 new clouded leopard cubs that are in training as animal ambassadors. The brothers, Haui-san & Riki-san, were born on August 25th, 2012, making them about 3 ½ months old. They can be seen in the Children's Zoo Nursery throughout December. They are a quite a playful pair and their rambunctious antics are a joy to watch!
