Red-collared Lemurs

Pierre and Zaza are adorable, and the perfect example of the difference in coloration of male and female red-collared lemurs. The males tend to be more brownish gray in the body and have a more prominent collar (or cheek) that is sometimes reddish brown, but often cream colored. Females are more reddish brown with a smaller reddish collar. There are actually over 100 species of lemurs remaining today, and all of them range from vulnerable to critically endangered, mostly due to habitat loss and hunting. Africa Rocks is home to five different species of lemurs, and each one is quite unique in appearance and endearingly cute!
